The AWYRF launched a successful inaugural cycle in 2023, with five leaders guiding groups across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and has continued to nurture local grassroots leadership and connect to a strong regional network.
The fund, previously the East Africa Women and Youth Permaculture Fund, have chosen to refresh their name to reflect the growth of their geographical reach and regenerative practices.

This cycle will support 10 emerging leaders across Kenya, Mozambique, Somalia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe in their mission to build resilience and self-sufficiency through agroecology and entrepreneurship pathways.
Meet the Leaders
The group is embarking on a six-month program and focusing on their proposed project activities, such as community workshops and establishing regenerative farming demonstration sites. The women’s project activities align with the urgent needs and wishes of their communities – including increased livelihoods, improved access to nutritious food or reforestation, such as the sacred Kaya Forest in the Coastal region of Kwale County, Kenya.
The group, guided by Regional Coordinator Wegesa Jane Fraser, are gathering at key moments in the program such as peer learning circles, a communications workshop and a closing circle.
From Seed to Ecosystem
The AWYRF supports women’s leadership across regenerative approaches and entrepreneurship, aiming to address multiple interconnected challenges. These challenges include food security, climate resilience and economic empowerment. Each project is led by and for local communities, creating context specific pathways towards ecological restoration and community resilience.
The second cycle of the AWYRF Fund was resourced by the Regenerosity’s Seed Flow Funds ecosystem.
