Can intensive forestry boost biodiversity?

For over three decades, the Timbaktu Collective has been working in the drought-prone region in Andhra Pradesh, India, to promote ecological and social justice and regeneration.

In 2021, the Timbaktu Collective partnered with Regenerosity to launch a Miyawaki Forestry project, with the aim of encouraging farmers to use a small area of their land to do intensive forestry to boost biodiversity, soil health, and water retention.

The Timbaktu Collective trialled the Miyawaki method in a number of plots, including a showcase demonstration plot, and found that the trees grew rapidly, creating a lot of useful biomass for the overall farm health.
