On Tuesday 3rd December, we gathered with special guests Grandma Jyoti Ma, Yeye Luisah Teish, and TreeSisters representatives Ashley Tamburello, Georgina Gorman, and Madeleine Scrodellis to explore ethical partnership through the lens of ancestral wisdom.
The “Rooted in Ethics: Community Tree Stewardship Framework”—developed over five years—is a collaborative publication between TreeSisters (a Western environmental charity) and representatives from Indigenous Peoples and Nations (The Fountain). This framework redefines ethical tree growing by addressing systemic power imbalances in both the reforestation sector and wider society. It offers guidelines and principles for land restoration that honor the rights of nature, women, communities, and cultures.
Co-hosted with our friends at Be The Earth Foundation, this purpose of this conversation was to provide support for anybody working to align action with deeper principles through design practices, and processes that support this organizational shift.
