Nurture Community of Practice

ABOUT

The Nurture Community of Practice is a group of aligned funders that are interested in learning, sharing, and experimenting with allocating financial capital in ways that are trust-based, coherent, and inclusive, in order to address social and environmental challenges from their roots.

How does NURTURE CoP contribute to an alternative funding field:

  • Challenges traditional philanthropic models;

  • Creates a community of aligned global funders;

  • Helps evolve the capacity of funders for redistributing power, upgrading methodologies and governance structures;

  • Generates stories that inspire other funders to review and update their practices;

  • Creates collaborative prototypes for alternative types of funding;

  • Helps strengthen the field of alternative philanthropic practices

Why NURTURE CoP:

The initial impulse came from a need to move from theory to action. Many funders are already engaging in different funder networks, promoting or discussing such topics. In the richness of content, references and resources, we sought to create an inspiring environment focused on action, shared practices and experiments that could help us challenge and evolve our own practices.

Through creating a supportive environment for connections to happen, we also facilitate new partnerships and ideas to emerge.

WHO IS IT FOR:

The community is open to wealth holders, executive staff of foundations and family offices, philanthropic advisors and intermediaries. We also host events which include grantees and activists.

WHAT WE DO:

Because this is an informal network, over the last two years, we have constantly reviewed and adapted our practices to the needs, areas of interest, levels of energy and engagement of the members. We have drawn a lot of value from in-person events and have evolved into a more regional focus for 2024.

Our current activities include:

  1. Quarterly Community Meetings where we share learnings, challenges, inspirations and provide mutual support. These 1.5h sessions happen every quarter and are open for any of the members of our community to participate and connect.

  2. Community Retreats to take us deeper together. Now happening in three countries: UK, USA and Brazil, these annual events bring people together over a few days, through facilitated and informal sessions that support us to build connections and go deeper into our personal and collective inquiries.

  3. Pooled Funds to put our learning into action. We also support existing or emerging pooled funds that members can join in order to put theory into practice. For example, the US cohort has an active flow fund for land rematriation and Regenerosity flows funds for the capacity strengthening of grassroots organisations. Please reach out if you would like to learn more about the pooled funds available to help you put trust-based philanthropy into practice.

  4. Webinars to expand our horizons and platform important voices in this movement. This year, we will host webinars in partnership with other similar initiatives to continue to listen to those on the edges of this growing movement. You can find our previous webinars here.

HOW WE ORGANIZE:

The Nurture CoP is hosted by Be the Earth Foundation and Regenerosity in partnership with many other organisations. We have a root circle with four members which helps to plan and host these activities, and connect to regional initiatives in Brazil (co-hosted with Philó l Práticas Filantrópicas, Instituto Meraki and Silvia Morais) and the US (co-hosted by One Small Planet and Kindle Project).

HOW TO JOIN:

The easiest way to join is to fill in our intake form here, we will organise a call with you to get to know you better and add you to our mailing list so you can receive invitations for our activities.
